A woman in Shanghai spent over 8,000 yuan (1,251 US dollars) on the funeral of her beloved pet dog on Saturday.
As a service provided by an online store on Aibaba's Taobao—an eBay-style online marketplace, the funeral consists of memorial services, cremation and religious rites.
According to the service procedures, the deceased dog was first cleaned and placed inside an exquisite coffin surrounded by flowers, and then loaded in a luxury hearse vehicle worth over one million yuan (156,500 US dollars) for mourning, followed by cremation.
